African Disability Decade Programme (ADDP)

Development objective:

To contribute to increased quality of life and full inclusion and empowerment of all categories of People with Disabilities in all phases of life through implementation of all goals, principles and stategies described in the oficial African handicap decade.

Immediate Objectives:

  1. By March 2006 to enable DPOs in eight particular African countries and the African decade secretariat placed in South Africa, to carry out qualified advocacy campaigns and ensure mobilization, empowerment and networking through an increased capacity and ensure the integration of the handicap aspect in national and regional programmes.
  2. By March 2006 to faciliate the formulation and implementation of regional and national policies, programmes and legislation, that ensures full and equitable participation of People with Disabilities in eight particular countries African countries.


Target groups:

The members of national DPOs, i.e. PWD and their families, who belong to the poorest segments of any population, will receive direct benefits from the project. Since a great deal of the care effort is handled by the female members of the family, an increased access to service programmes from NGOs, private citizens, churces etc. will lower their work load.
