Sex by Choice – Not by Chance! - Sexual and Reproductive Health & Rights for Girls and Women with Disability

Development objective:

A society where the dignity and the sexual and reproductive health of women and girls with disability (GWWD) are fully respected.


Immediate Objectives:

  1. Selected key duty bearers are responsive to the sexual and reproductive health rights and needs (SRHR) and dignity of GWWD.
  2. Positive social and cultural attitudes and practices are emerging based on knowledge and acceptance of the equal value, dignity and rights of girls and women with disability at community level in the selected project districts.
  3. Girls and women with disability in the 2 project districts are able to demand for and control their sexual and reproductive rights.


Target groups:

Primary target group: 800 poor rural girls and women with disability in the 2 districts.

Secondary target groups: 

  • 400 Family members and caregivers especially male relatives and partners
  • 2 Groups of parents of children with learning disability.
  • 800 village health team members
  • 68 Health Workers at Health Centre (HC) II - V
  • 3,200 Community Members
  • 13 Reproductive Health Uganda (RHU) Community Volunteers
  • 3 Straight Talk Foundation (STF) agents
  • 22 School teachers
  • 32 Traditional leaders
  • 320 Chairpersons’ Local Council (LC) 1 and Secretary for Disability Affairs
  • 22 Chairpersons LC III & V and Secretary for Social Affairs/Gender
  • 20 Local police officers
  • 800 LC 1 Court members
  • 6 District court officials 
  • 2 National male ambassadors
